Dr. Meredith Chivers: What is Sexual Fluidity?
In describing female sexuality, Dr. Meredith Chivers defines sexual fluidity as the “tendency for sexual minority women to experience shifts in sexual identity.” However, while it is possible to identify yourself as bisexual or lesbian or heterosexual based on different life experiences, Dr. Chivers says that she does not think that this changes who you are fundamentally attracted to.
Dr. Chivers has appeared on numerous TV shows, published extensively on topics of sexuality, and even shared sex column advice for Savage Love. She is an Assistant Professor at Queen’s University in Ontario, Canada and an alum of Northwestern University. Her Sexuality and Gender Laboratory, SageLab, is dedicated to understanding gender differences and similarities in sexuality, including sexual psychophysiology, sexual orientation, and sexual functioning.
