Youth Blog – Be Heard For Who You Are!

Posted on March 3rd, 2016 by IMPACT in Featured, Transgender, Youth Blog. No Comments

In the past, IMPACT has reported on therapies and medical treatments relevant to youth & young adults transitioning genders. This includes a blog with a personal take on Hormone Replacement Therapy for transgender individuals, and a report on Puberty Blocking Medications for those experiencing Gender Dysphoria.

Now, we are part of a new collaboration to connect trans* people to another form of therapy that many individuals seek out – speech & communication therapy. This new “Be Heard for Who You Are” group helps trans* people up to age 24 find a comfortable voice and communication style that reflects their affirmed gender.

This group is both an opportunity to receive personalized assessment and feedback, as well as a chance to learn and practice skills with others. The 8 weekly sessions are led by trans*-affirming speech-language pathologists from the Northwestern University Center for Audiology, Speech, Language, & Learning, in collaboration with the Gender & Sex Development Program at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago.

To learn more about the group and its fees, please contact the Center for Audiology, Speech, Language, & Learning at 847-491-3165, or via email at NUCASLL@northwestern.edu. You can also learn more here.
