My Fabulous Disease: A Fabulous Site about Living Positively Positive
My Fabulous Disease is a terrific site! Mark S. King is a long-time AIDS activist, writer, and community organizer who has been living with HIV for 30 years. He was diagnosed during the AIDS crisis in the 1980’s. He’s funny, entertaining, and he really goes the distance with his informational, yet creative videos and posts about ALL things HIV. He’s also a recovering drug addict, sharing his struggles candidly on the blog. Mark’s blog is refreshing because most writers/bloggers have a tendency to present the good side of things and fail to share the stumbles of every day life. It gives his site a realness that is not always easy to find.
One of his latest videos, HIV Criminalization Face-Off, is a mocked confrontation between an HIV positive man and a former partner accusing him of not disclosing his HIV status. It gives two well-weighted sides of the sensitive and controversial argument surrounding HIV criminalization laws:
A related project that Mark King shares on his site is a documentary project, HIV Is Not a Crime, a 2011 film by Sean Strub:
