IMPACT Student Wins First Place in Lavender Research Forum
IMPACT Program undergraduate student Samantha DeHaan was awarded first place for her paper in the second annual UIC Lavender Research Forum. The forum was organized by the UIC Chancellor’s Committee on the status of LGBT Issues and the UIC Gender and Sexuality Center. Samantha’s paper focused on the negative effects of victimization experiences on symptoms of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in LGBT youth. She also found that supportive peer and family relationships had positive effects. Her paper was selected from a pool of papers submitted by students in multiple departments on campus. Pictured at left is Samantha presenting a poster of these findings at the UIC Student Research Forum.
